Boxing up some signage...

During our adventure to find a videographer recently we found ourselves on 4th Street in Santa Ana, CA.

As we were walking down the street we encountered several bridal shops which of course you know I just had to visit. One of the things that I didn't think I needed was a box card until I realized that maybe it would be useful to keep cards all in one place. All the bridal shops had the same type of boxes there for about the same amount $50. Ouch. Although the boxes are pretty and elaborate I couldn't see myself spending that much for a white lacy box like the one below.

As I was trying to figure out what our wedding card box was going to look like I found myself looking at the elaborate three/four tier designs like the one The Roddy Bride posted on her blog. She did a great job because the box came out amazing.

Since I'm a DIYer I decided to conquer the task. At first I liked the idea of using shoe boxes and covering them with fabric but since I'm only a few weeks away from the wedding I opted for a different option. I moved on from shoe boxes to cereal boxes. I thought maybe I can glue some of them together make a few incisions and voila. Well it sounded like a good idea at the time but once again I decided to take the simple route. During a visit to Target recently we found a wedding gift box that I thought would be perfect with some modifications. I decided to go for simple box when I realized that I'm probably going to be the one that has to take everything to the venue. I am making thinks easier on myself by downsizing things. Don't get me wrong had I really given much thought to this project early on I would have gone all out.

I mean look at these boxes:

With all the choices out there ours seems simple but I think is lovely since I jazzed it up myself.

I began with a simple box:

I cut a slot for the cards at the very top and used some construction paper to cover it up:

I then drew out some letters and decided that this box was going to serve two purposes. The first one is the obvious card box and the second as the gift sign.

On the sides I cut our more letters and glued it with my glue gun. One side is in English and the other in Spanish:

Simple but functional. The best part is that it only cost me less than $5.00 to make this box. What do you think? Are you having an elaborate card box?

The box looks great! We were able to rent a birdcage from my reception site and it was great because I didn't have to worry about making sure someone brought the box.

I think it came out great! I especially love the bilingual wording you put on it.
I was going to try and do a 3 tier card box myself, but I found this really great birdcage at the thrift store for only $5.95! (You can see it on my blog)
All I have to do is paint it silver (it's gold-tone now) and weave some lavender ribbon through it to cover the gemstones that are in it (beautiful, but colors don't match my theme).

Your box turned out great! I've still got that on the DIY list... and I may just have to borrow your biligual idea!
